In March 2004, Anne Van de Water presented the first Yoganesha™ Teacher Training for people who want to teach yoga to children. This certified teacher’s training course is offered through the Santa Barbara Yoga Center over the course of a 15-hour weekend. Yoganesha’s next teacher training will be on October 16, 17, 18, 2009.

I'll also be holding the 5th Annual Yoganesha Summer Yoga Camp this year at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center. Here are the details:
June 23-27, 2008
Ages 5-8: 12:30-1:30 pm
Ages 9-12: 1:30-2:30 pm
Price: $60

The Yoganesha™ teacher training course covers:

Day One
- why yoga for children?
- goals in teaching yoga to children
- benefits of yoga for children
- effects of yoga on children physically, mentally, emotionally, socially

Day Two
Creating classes:
* quiet time / meditation
* preliminary group check in / sharing
* education / life lesson / class theme
* yoga poses / asana
* games / yoga play / partner work / creativity
* rest time and inner imagination
* closing group check in / sharing
* homework: applying class theme to real life

Creating age and grade level specific classes:
* age 2-4 / pre-school
* age 5-8 / grades K-3
* age 8-11 / grades 4 & 5

* age 12-14 / grades 6-8

* age 15-18 / grades 9-12

Day Three
- small groups create age specific class themes and practice teaching to the whole group
- settings for teaching yoga to children
- creating program proposals
- ideas about funding for and/or volunteer teaching
